On comic books: Still, always tragically behind, but I finished by Savage She-Hulk omnibus. Also, Powers #30 for the win. Also also, Baz is intrigued by Red Hulk, and wants to know if heapos;s from a different country or something. I told him we would keep the comic books, and when he could read, he could find out for himself. Then he stayed up later than he should have, apos;readingapos; his Scooby Doo comic.
On publishing: Theyapos;ve noticed. Sourcebooks (a publisher I had never heard of) noticed that Heyer fans will pay almost any price for new copies. So instead of $8 mass market paperbacks, they are releasing the whole line (yes, as near as I can tell, even the obscure ones) in trade paperback. And I, although I grumble, and paying for them. Because if I donapos;t buy them now, what will I do when the copy of Fridayapos;s Child that my mother bought when she was 30 finally disintegrates completely? Furthermore, what will I pass on to my children? Eleventyone Interrobang Because itapos;s like the scheme where Disney is only going to release each movie every 10 years, so if you donapos;t buy it NOW, you will NEVER GET ANOTHER CHANCE FOR A WHOLE DECADE, BUY BUY BUY. Sadly, this is a pretty compelling argument to me.
Also, they are releasing them faster than once a month -- I can tell, because there was a big huge swack on the shelf. It included a lot of the Regencies, including Faroapos;s Daughter, Fridayapos;s Child, Charity Girl, False Colors, Black Sheep, and (arguably) The Spanish Bride. The straight Regency romances all have very light spines. There was also a cluster of black-spined books, which I would classify as the histories -- Simon the Coldheart, The Conqueror, Infamous Army.
On reading to the kids: I am tired of picture books. Just...tired. Last night I picked out a chapter book for each of the kids. I read Kay the first chapter of Little House in the Big Woods, and Baz got a chapter of Encyclopedia Brown. They were both inclined to sulk that they did not get to pick, but sat through the chapters, asked good questions, and seemed engaged. Sil says he will do more picture-book reading during the day.
